Nature of Work
Territorial Army is also a force for National Defence. The territorial army is also known as the Citizens army and is composed of 31 infantry battalions and 19 departmental TA units such as the railways, engineers, oil sector, ecological, signals and general hospital units. Besides supporting the army, the TA carries out operational tasks, internal security duties and assists civil authorities.
Recruitment and training is conducted under the aegis of Additional Directorate General, TA, Army Headquarters, ‘L’ Block, New Delhi-110001. Officers commissioned in TA may be called for military service when required.
Entry and Training
Officers entry - TA (Territorial Army Infantry) as an Officer.
Eligibility - Only male applicants/ ex-service officers . Officer commissioned in TA Infantry may be called out for military service for longer durations depending on requirement.
Educational Qualifications - Graduates
Age - 18 to 42 year as on 20 July of the year of joining
Training - One month basic training in the first year of commission. Two months annual training camp every year including the first year. 75 days Post Commissioning training within first two years.
Pay and Promotions -Pay, Allowances and other facilities are same as the regular Army Officers when embodied for training and military service. Promotions up to Major by time scale subject to passing required promotion examination.
Promotion to Lt.Col., Colonel and Brigadier on selection.
