Home Guard Force
Nature of Work
To supplement the police force a force of Home guards has been constituted to serve as a standby force during emergencies and to assist in maintaining law and order, manage traffic in cities etc. They enjoy privileges similar to police services.
Entry and Training
Home guards are recruited or appointed from a government organization. Volunteers offering to work as Home guards are also enrolled.
Training of recruited personnel is carried on at state level. Freshers are given basic training, which comprises mainly of physical fitness exercises, advanced training is in fire fighting, use of weapons/lathi, crowd and mob management, patrolling etc. In service training includes training for leadership.
Home guard officials are graduates recruited through selection exams and physical fitness tests.
Fire Brigade Force
Nature of Work
Fire Brigades are stationed at all towns/cities/public sector industrial townships, airports, ports etc. The major task is of fire fighting although fire brigade also help during floods, earthquakes and other emergencies in rescue operations. Fire service officials also educate the public on fire prevention measures and offer advise on fire safety.
