Nature of Work

Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) under the Ministry of Home Affairs is responsible for providing security to industrial establishments.

In accordance with the 1984 Factory Act, industries with 250 workers need to have security staff to prevent sabotage, fire and other industrial hazards. The CISF provides security to public sector undertakings and its staff check thefts, pilferage and keep vigil against espionage. They are trained to handle industrial emergencies. The CISF officials keep the Ministry informed on Industrial Security matters and supervise industrial security arrangements in the region under their change.

At the head of the organization is the Inspector General followed by DIGs, Commandants, Asstt. Commandants, Inspectors, Sub-inspectors, Security Guards.

Entry and Training

Recruitment to the posts of sub-inspectors and assistant commander are open to graduates while for junior positions eligibility is a school leaving certificate. Preference is given to NCC certificate holders. Refer to entrance test details.

A course in Industrial Safety Management for graduates conducted by Patna University is almost a direct route to the security staff of Industries. Graduates in Physics/ Chemistry/Maths/Engineering are eligible. Industries may sponsor students for this course. Prestigious industrial units of TISCO, TELCO, BOKARO, INDIAN OIL, HEC, SINDRI FERTILISERS have absorbed students from this course.

Training of CISF personnel is conducted at Hyderabad. After the training the personnel are placed on probationary service for a year after which they move up to higher positions. The senior most personnel are on deputation or move up with promotions.
