Professionals such as Systems Analysts and Administrators, Analyst programmers, Application Programmers, Information Systems Managers, Systems maintenance analysts, Software Quality managers, Computer Operations Manager, Operations Research Analysts, Electronic Data Processing managers, Database managers are involved in customising and facilitating the use of software and managing the flow of data. MCA, a degree in engineering or computer science is required for these positions. Scientific Applications Programmers have a mathematics, physics, engineering background or a combination of these with computer applications.
Computers are used in creative fields for animation, computer aided designing and visual communication. Opportunities are in advertising, mass communication, and design. An art/visual communication background is required. MCA degree is useful for systems designers for creative applications.
Consultancy
Computer consultants specialise in any or all of the following areas of work- project management, hardware and software selection, information/database management, optimization of computer operations, data communications, trouble shooting and security, computer operations and telecommunications. MTech, MCA and experience in handling each of the areas is required by prospective consultants.
Computer Operations involves data entry, desk top publishing, etc. Computer courses after 10+2 are required for these jobs. They often handle peripheral electronic devices.
Marketing - Market Research, Market Analysis requires computer professionals with a marketing background.
Online Business
E-Commerce-Electronic commerce has evolved with the convergence of computers and telecommunication technologies .E-commerce has generated an Internet economy activating world wide marketing and banking activities. The professionals working for these are ‘Infomediaries’. Infomediaries are trained to use virtual skills to turn data into usable information via a community based buying environment or powerful technology based buying aids. 50% new jobs in the IT industry are Internet related, information based and involves consumer/buyer information and services, developing and managing seller ‘Web-Portals’, creation of Internet market, virtual customer management, consulting, etc. Network economy is envisaged to generate opportunities in knowledge management, software programming on the Internet, central banking and the like.
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
ERP software is used for planning the resources of the entire worldwide network of an enterprise. Sales, service, distribution, marketing, purchase, manufacturing, inventory, finance, accounts etc. are integrated on one software backbone through ERP. For joining as technical ERP, professionals with a BTech/BE(Mech/civil/manufacturing/ textiles) are required to train in ERP. For the financial segment CWA/CA/MBA are relevant basic qualifications.

All information data and IT systems deal with managing of information. The most popular of database is the Relational databases (RDBMS) used by major corporates and banks which offer good job opening.

A call centre is a place that has adequate telecom facilities, trained consultants, access to wide database, Internet and other on-line support infrastructure in order to provide information and support to customers on real time basis. ‘Soft’ telephonic skills, people management, comprehension along with some ‘hard’ technical skills, such as computer telephonic integration (CTI), automatic call distribution (routing, multistage handling, queue priority and time specific parameters)are also required.
Multimedia
Multimedia involves computing and audiovisual technologies to fuse video, audio, text, graphics, animation etc. in a meaningful way. All these are used to create a real life experience.
